CITIZENSHIP by Lone Beiter
Exhibition venue: Dingle Marina Building, Dingle, Co.Kerry, V92 FW2PDates: 15th November – 3rd December 2024.
“Dingle-based Danish artist Lone Beiter explores themes of Citizenship, Multiculturalism and Belonging in new sculptural exhibition curated by Valeria Ceregini. International sculptor Lone Beiter presents a compelling new body of work that delves into the complex themes of Citizenship, Multiculturalism, Belonging, and Longing. This thought-provoking exhibition draws inspiration from archaeological research, mythological tales of migration, personal experience, and contemporary public discourse.
The exhibition showcases three distinctive strands of sculpture: Deep-relief wall pieces, Pyramidical structures, and Bronze-age inspired boat forms, each serving as a unique lens through which the artist explores themes of migration and identity. Natural patterns remain central to her artistic universe, with figurative boat pieces set against deeply emotive abstract compositions, creating a powerful and dramatic narrative.
Entitled CITIZENSHIP, this exhibition not only maps out Beiter’s personal journey but also signals a bold expansion of her practice. She introduces innovative sculptural works, crafted from a dynamic combination of ceramic, lustre, and bronze materials, pushing the boundaries of her medium. Situated in the heart of the Gaeltacht, the exhibition navigates between English, Irish, and Danish language, reflecting her multicultural experience and identity.
Beiter’s process of applying for Irish citizenship, which began a year before the exhibition, has left a profound imprint on her work. This exhibition serves as a visual record of the questions that have emerged from her journey: What balance of rights and responsibilities do citizens hold worldwide? How does a change in official status affect one’s deeper sense of identity? What happens when different cultures meet within us?
With CITIZENSHIP, she invites audiences to reflect on these timely and universal issues through the rich, tactile language of sculpture “

Ón Danmhairg is ea an t-ealaíontóir Lone Beiter ach tá sí ag cur fúithi i gCorca Dhuibhne le tamall de bhlianta. Deineann sí téamaí casta na laethanta seo, an tSaorántacht, an tIlchultúrchas agus an Muintearas a fhiosrú sa taispeántas dealbhóireachta nua seo dá cuid. Deineann Lone, ar dealbhadóir idirnaisúnta anois í, mionscagadh ar na téamaí thuasluaite ina cuid saothair, saothar ata á spreagadh ag taighde ar chúrsaí seandálaíochta, ag miotaseolaíocht scéalta na himirce, ag a taithí phearsanta féin ar an imirce, agus ag a bhfuil i mbéal an phobail faoin imirce i láthair na huaire.
Trí cinn de shnáithe éagsúla den dealbhóireacht atá ar taispeáint anseo: saothar domhainrilífe don mballa, struchtúir phirimidiúla agus píosaí ar nós bád ón gCré-umhaois. Lionsa is ea gach ceann acu trína ndeintear téamaí na himirce is an aitheantais a fhiosrú. Fanann Lone dílis fós dosna patrúin ón nádúr ina cuid ealaíne. Agus deineann na báid fhíoracha aici mórinsint dhrámatúil ar théamaí an taispeántais a spreagadh, nuair a chuireann sí iad taobh lena saothar teibí sochorraitheach.
SAORÁNTACHT teideal an taispeántais nua seo. Ní turas pearsanta Lone amháin a chuirtear os ar gcomhair amach ann ach mórfhorbairt ar chleachtas an ealaíontóra féin leis. Tá dealbhóireacht nuálach anseo aici, í cruthaithe go healaíonta as meascán fuinniúil de chré-earra, loinnir agus ábhar cré-umha. Tá teorainneacha a cuid cleachtais mar dhealbhóir á mbrú amach aici anseo leis.
Ta an saothar á chur ar taispeáint sa Ghaeltacht. Imíonn an insint sa taispeántas ón Danmhargais go Béarla go Gaelainn, ní a insíonn scéal Lone féin agus í ag imeacht idir na trí theanga. Taithí í sin a chuireann ar a cumas ceisteanna an ilchultúrachais agus an aitheantais a fhiosrú.
Chuir Lone isteach ar shaoránacht de chuid na hÉireann níos luaithe i mbliana is tá an próiseas sin ag dul ar aghaidh i gcónaí. Fágann sin a rian láidir ar a saothar ealaíne. Tá taifeadadh súl anseo ar na ceisteanna a éiríonn as an bpóiseas iarratais: Cén chothromaíocht atá idir na cearta agus na freagrachtaí atá ag saoránaigh ar fud an domhain? Cén tionchar a bhíonn ar athrú stádais oifigiúil an tsaoránaigh ar a bhraistint féiniúlachta? Conas mar a bhionn ag an té go mbuaileann an dá chultúr le chéile ann? Tugtar cuireadh don lucht féachana, sa taispeántas seo SAORÁNACHT, a machnamh a dhéanamh ar na cúrsaí tráthúla uilíocha seo i dteanga shaibhir thadhlach na dealbhóireachta.
Beidh an triúr seo i láthair ag an Oscailt Oifigiúil, an dealbhóir féin, Lone Beiter, an léiritheoir Valeria Ceregini agus an scríbhneoir agus ceoltóir Billy O’Shea, Éireannach atá lonnaithe in Copenhagen.
Tá urraíocht a cur ar fáil don taispeántas seo ag Ealaín na Gaeltachta. Ta sé á chur ar siúl i gcomhpháirtíocht le Ireland’s Edge/Other Voices.
